About the Thomas Plott Foundation

As you know, our precious second born son, Thomas, is fighting the genetic disease Cystic Fibrosis. Because Thomas is a happy, active teenager it is easy to underestimate the seriousness of this disease. The reality is that Cystic Fibrosis is the number one genetic cause of death in children causing a slow but consistent deterioration of the lungs and other organs. While we will resolutely battle this disease at home with a tireless medication regimen which includes four breathing treatments, 2 rounds of chest physical therapy, and a total of 40 doses of medicine a day, we must also be aggressive fundraisers and advocates. Quite literally, Thomas’ life depends on the crucial funding needed to find a cure.

We are thankful to have the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CF Foundation) on our side pushing for a variety of treatments to ease his CF symptoms along with the quest for a cure. From its novel venture philanthropy business model to its own clinical trials network, the CF Foundation provides a unique and successful platform which encourages pharmaceutical and biotech companies to develop potential treatments for Thomas and others with CF. Because of its relatively small patient population, these companies would be unlikely to target Cystic Fibrosis without the financial support and other benefits provided by the CF Foundation. In short, without the CF Foundation there would be very little hope of finding a cure in Thomas’ lifetime. Fortunately, thanks to the support of people like you, we have several drugs in development that hold great promise. Our mission is to do everything possible to help advance this exciting research so that Thomas and others can look forward to a long and healthy life.

We are blessed to live in an incredibly philanthropic community. You all continue to amaze us with your generosity. So often we are asked about ways to help.
